Roads to Regeneration

Eight documentaries. Eight filmmakers. Eight stories with nothing in common except the belief that things can be better. We built the digital home and visual identity that tied them together.

RRoads to Regeneration is a series of eight short documentaries produced by Hot Docs and presented by SAP, each one profiling everyday people pursuing ideas that make life more sustainable, equitable, and hopeful. The films were made by different filmmakers from around the world, covering unrelated topics. That was the challenge: create an identity and a digital presence that could hold eight distinct stories together without overpowering any of them.

The microsite was the center of gravity, giving the initiative a home to present the films, explain the project, and draw new audiences into the series. The visual identity was built to serve it. We developed a logotype simple enough to coexist with eight unique film brands while still carrying its own personality. A "road" graphic, a stylized line treatment, moves with film clips in an intro sequence at the start of each documentary and anchors each film's poster as a dynamic still element.

Together, the site and the identity created a visual language that connected the series without flattening what made each film its own.
